Final Music video

Finished Digipak & Magazine Advert

Evaluation Question 4

Here are my answers to the evaluation question 4.I've answered them in the format of a Prezi as i had my slides I wanted to include and talk about, but didn't want them to take lots of space up on my blog.I've included every piece of media technology I've used throughout my whole project and gone into depth about how I've used them.

Part 2

Videoed explanations of how i used some of the media technologies in my project

I decided to show on these videos media technologies i had used during the process of my project and show you the way in which i used them.them. I've also demonstrated some of my work ive created on these sites also and how they've helped me during each process in getting to the final point.I felt a video explanation allowed me to express the way i felt about using these new and old sites and gave me more of an opportunity to visually show you how these media technologies benefited me huge amounts throughout my project.

I decided to show some of the sites i felt were the most important to explain,i also included some hardware essentials that helped me out alot also. Combining these together i explain how without the use of media technologies enabled me to develop on my already existing skills and use them to the best of my ability enhancing my design process throughout. Here are the videos below...

Adobe Photoshop & Premier Pro

Adobe Photoshop and PremierPro were the two most significant piece of media software i used throughout the whole process of my project. They enabled me to create everything i have to a high degree with the features they offer.I decided to explain in much more detail how i used both these programmes in order to achieve finished products to the standard i hoped.

Having already had existing knowledge of Photoshop from my 1st year,this gave me great confidence when it came to using it for the 2nd year tasks.I already had knowledge of how to use it and i knew this would be an advantage to me during the process. The main use of Photoshop in this project for me was when it came to the designing process of my ancillary texts, mainly. This was because at this point,i had to use Photoshop to turn a plain image into a music advert and create a digipak from scratch. Looking at how i used this media technology,i started by using it as a base template. Photoshop offers you a blank space to work from and this was really helpful for my music advert.I changed the size of the 'international paper' to A4,so i could make my design the right size at first,so i didn't have to go back and change it later on which would've of caused me a lot of problems and wasted valuable time.Focusing on my music advert to begin with, Photoshop enabled me to create my design from scratch, initially i started playing around with image placement which was very easy to do on this software programme.I imported images directly onto my paper template and began manipulating their size using the transformation tool in order to obtain a successful image. This didn't take very long as this media technology offered me tools that allowed me to change image size almost instantly and to any size i want which was very helpful. For the main image of the hands on my music advert,i used the free transformation tool to enlarge the image so it fit side to side with the page as i wanted it to be the central focus, to make it fit perfectly at each side. This was really helpful and allowed me to achieve the design i wanted to really quickly.

This media technology also has many font styles to choose from, this sped up my design process once again. For the bottom half of my advert where i have listed the names of company's who have rated my album,i wanted the font to be simplistic but not the standard 'Ariel' font you might find.Because Photoshop had so many diverse font styles it allowed me to choose one that worked perfect for me and fit around the rest of my whole advert. The steps i took were simple,i could type my chosen text manually and it would appear straight away then I could drag and drop in into my preferd spot and it was done.Another way i used this media technology in my music advert was when it came to importing the lip design.Rather than picking a design that was already pre made i wanted to make my own up that would match and have elements of all my other products to create continuity. To do this,i impoted the main image i used for my front cover of my digipak.I cropped the desing out leaving just the lips,i then used the magic easrer tool to black out some of the surrounding areas. As this wasnt enough,i then took the easrer on a softend blend mode and manually did it myself, using the easrer on a softend blend mode allowed me to gradually take away the edges with the outcome looking subtle against the sides of the actuall image rather than it been harsh if it was done with a normal earser.Once i'd got down to the lips i dragged and dropepd in onto the template i was working on.I then used the transformation tool to manipularte the size and shrink it down really small to beign creating my desired border.Once i found the perfect size, the rest of the process was made really easy.I then just used a copying tool and pasted the rest across, using the curser to drag them into position. For the main title of 'Lola' which appears throughout my whole product i used a layerr style/blend on it.Using this it allowed me to create a drop shadown on the text. This created a shadowed edge around ym text allowing it to look 3D asif its standing off the page.It instantly chanegd the way the text looked, having the layer blend on it ment the text was no loner flat to the page instead was standing of it.Using Photoshop allowed me designing process to be sucsessful due to what the software programme offers,as i got further into my process i began to relaise Photoshop was aiding me alot in saving time,it was allowing me to create an music advert of a professional standard with ease.

During the creation of my digipak the only software suitbale for use was Photoshop.I tried other programmes such as the standard 'Paint' even microsoft programmes as they allow you to do simialr things, however none of them offerd the same complexity that Photoshop did so it was an easy desicon. As i had never created a digipak before,i initally found it quite challenging.A very helpful technique i used for ym digipak was citting out images for use.As i wanted to include my main model on there in different poses,i knew i had to cut around her and crop bits out as i dint want to background, and iw anted to impose the image onto a more wacky desing that fit in with my overall theme. To do this, this software programme allowed me to crop my desired image down, from there i began cutting out around my model. It allowed me to zoom so far in i could see the change in pixel colour,so i could use a really tiny brush to get rid of the slight lightness around the image. This was really effecient as i didnt waste time going abnck fourth trying to get it right. The back cover of my digpak was the most challengin paert to create and Photoshop helped me a lot during that process.I used the sqaure box tool to create a backgound for my text,as i wnated some of the writing white i decided to create a block effect that held the text of all the song titles.I did this by using the square tool anf using the paint bucket to fill it in with the pink and white colours. This was really helpful as it ment i didnt have to change my design because of it,and i could write over the image.I used a similar process to embed the pink and white design on some of the cover to,except i used a tranformation tool to lengthen out the block allowing it to fit side to side.I did this because i felt it tied in nicely with the rest of the design and ment i could incorperate all the colours i used throughout my whole design.

Little elements such as the music record labels and copyrioght writing on the back of my digipak,i imported them from my own files but used Photoshop to edit them first before i could put them on my finished design. The copyright writing initally was black,so i had to make adjustments to that,as i know my design wouldn't of looked as good in white. This media technolgoy made the process of editing and changing it really easy, something that would'nt of been possible to do if i used a different software programme.Another and really important element to point out is the sue of layers.Without Photoshop offering the use of layers, the process would'nt be as effective.Using the layers allowed me to to put one thing on top of the other, for example but my background behind my chosen image of my model wihtout ruining the design all together. It ment i could have multiple things on the same page but if something went wrong, for exsmple early in on the process i want nearly done with ym desing but made a desicion i ddint like and wanted to get rid of it,if i hadnt of put it on a seperate layer i may of well lost the whole of my design. They proved very helpful to me throught the process, they almost acted as a saftety net if soemthign went wrong.Editing my images on Photoshop for ym digipak was essential, alothough they looked fine as they were iwanted to manipulate tghe lighting etc.I used the levels and curves option to change the hue and saturation within my images.I lightened some areas and created shadows in others, adding a bit more of a professional edge to the image.I also went on to experiment with filters and this media technology offerd me the choice of adding a colour balance to my whole image. In the end i opted out of the colour as i felt it overpowerd my full design, however i stuck with the contrasting levels i previously adjusted.

To conclude, without the use of this media software i wouldbe really stuggled to create professional looking products. It enabled me to use all the tools to my best advantage,in the way i wnated them to.It made the whole design process a lot more acsessible,it terms of me feelign confident enough to challenge and use new tools in order to obtain results that look professional and fit for purpsoe.Overall this media technology helped me a great deal throught my creational process.

PremierPro

Prior to this project i have never used PremierPro before, and had no knowdlege of how to use it what so ever.Previously i had used a video editing programme breifly, but not enough to gain knowledge and skills from it.So when it came to using this editing software i was really apprehensive of what to do.Initially,it took me alot of time to get used to it,when i first went on i had no clue where to start the work station it offered was very big and confusing and i didn't know where to start or even how to get my footage on there.Because of this,i attended over lunch times quite often and the media technician helped to show me how it works and what the basics of the software were,as i knew if i didnt ask for help at this stage it may of took me alot longer to work out how it did work, wasting time that i ddint have. After learning the basics,i felt the best way to learnw as to keep going on the software and playing about with it,i was working on an edit suite to there was two screens to look at which was initially abit daunting but i understood why as i got further into the process.

When i first gatherd my first footage i began importing into my work station, one my one i could replay the files on a little screen before actually dragging them into my timeline.I did this with every file to make sure it was the right one. There was two little { and } icons under the screen where i could preview my file, these became really helpful to me.They allowed me to start and stop scetions of the file and cut the other bits off within that file that i didnt like.As when filming theres ususally talking at the beginning or end or sometime a few laughs, these tools enabled me to keep my footage just select the section i wanted for my actual video.Once i had done that i could then drag my sectioned off peice into my timeline effeciently and it would only show the bits withint the {} that i chose. This tool within the software is really effective, its a quick way of cropping your file before you put it anywhere,it saves time during the process and allows you to create a clip really quickly.Moving on from that i began looking at transitions.I didnt initally use these as i dint want to over complicate the process as i was very new to the software but i got more confident i felt they would look really good.I opened up the option bar and selecetd the transition i wanted,i could then drag them onto and ontop of the clip i wanted there to be a transition. It was really quite and when i played the clip back the transition worked straight away.I was really happy with this,as it added dimension to my footage without much hassle.

As i progressed in my editing process i began wanting to overlap to files ontop fo eachother,i had no idea how this was done.I tried dragging a file of my male model on top of the main female model but it just counteracted one and other and would only show 1 file.I had a look online but couldnt find what i was looking for there either. After much deliobaeration i was thinking back to the tools i used in Photoshop and understood that in photoshop if you want one image to be seen over another you put them on top of eachother the use the opacity tool so they're both shown. It instantly clocked that this could be the same technique for this prgramme and it was,in the end i found the opacity and motion tool in the upper bar.It let me decrease the opacity allowing two clips to be shown at once,i was so happy with the outcome.I felt like it was letting me incorperate lots of things at once and mde the clips look really exciting and not all the same.As you can see in my music video i applied this technique in a few places throughout.

Another thing this media technology allowed me to do was insert a colour over my clips. As i wanted to incorpaerate similiar colours throughout i inserted a pink colour to match my other products over some of the clips. This was done by inserting RGB COLOURS option over my clip, this allowed me to play aorund with the colours on my clip.At this point i identified that i could also change the levels of my clip which i was really happy about.I brightend some of the shots and distorted the colours on other to get that really significant POP effect. At first i found it quite tricky but once i became quite confident with it,thie software allowed me to create a music video in the best possible way i could.Placing my song track on the timeline i also found very easy to do,i uploaded it straight from my files and dragged the audio across and onto the timeline two under where my clips was, from there it would play over my clips.I thought it may be hard to try and match up the lip syncing with the track at first, but it wasnt.Even though i cropped the clips down initially,i had to go back and make a few adjustments throughout. It was suprisingly simple that to cut down a clip that was already in my timeline all i had to do was drag it the opposite way and it would cut it down. This was suprisingly easily but worked really well and ment i didnt have to remove it from the timeline altogether and start from scratch.

Overall this media technolgoy was vitial in the creation of my music video.Without it,i would'nt of been able to create a music video at all,or to a good standard.Having used this media technology i think on inital use it looked very complex to me and hard to use,but once i was confident within it offerd some really good tools to use that it was worth learning how to use it.It aided me throughout the whole process and there was not one option i could've needed that it didn't have,as it had it all and more.Looking back i would use the peice of software again if it was to conduct a similar type of project. Its quick, effecient and effective and allowed me to create a music video to a standard in which i really liked.

Evaluation Question 3

Evaluation Question 3

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Conducting audience feedback on both my products was essential to my evaluation process. It enabled me to gather and obtain opinions on how to improve my already existing products. When it came to creating audience feedback,I had in mind the way in which i wanted to do it.I wanted to create broad platforms accessible to all different people in order to gather the most honest and useful feedback I could.Having this is mind,I decided to create different questions for my ancillary texts and music advert equally,so the questions weren't repetitive and i gained answers that were useful to me in order to improve if i felt necessary. I used different media platforms for this i created many polls and posted them onto my blog,i did this by using pollmaker.com.This enabled anonymous feedback on my blog,to people who were either directed there or were just looking at my blog themselves. It allowed me to obtain honest feedback where the people didn't have to leave a name.I did this because often people want to be nice or praise your work whether they spot the need for improvement or not, this is why i mixed my feedback with online platforms and in person.I also used Survey monkey, another interactive platform this time being a survey. This site allowed me to collate all the results and put them into graph which gave me a efficient overview of what people thought when it came  to looking at the feedback i gained.I interviewed 2 people as well and filmed this,i did this in the style of a focus group in order to gather immediate personal opinions from someone. This proved very successful,i printed out my ancillary texts and handed them to them when asking the questions. As i felt this gave them a chance to assess my work while giving an answer, therefore giving me much more helpful feedback rather than just a simple answer.I tailored my questions in order for them to require an in depth answer as well,as i felt this most appropriate for gaining answer that would benefit me.i then went on to create some questionnaires myself.I created them all the same, and handed them to people of ll different ages and gender, again,in the hope of gathering results that were varied and helpful to me.I then also sent the same questionnaire out online to those people i couldn't get the actual form to.By doing this it saved me alot of time, and proved very efficient on gaining feedback quickly as i received the online forms back quicker than the ones in person.

After having all my audience feedback out there for nearly 2 weeks i decided to collate all the current results together. After assessing the results and opinions of those but answered my questions i came to the overall conclusion that the general feedback on my products was very good with minor improvements that i could possibly make.I've learnt a lot form my audience feedback, alot more than i first anticipated when doing it.I was unaware as to how a different pair of eyes can spot something you may completely miss just by having them look at it instead of you.I quickly learnt what people liked and disliked about my products and the people generally were picking up on similar thing e.g font size, image placement. In.In contrast,i was also noticing the things i had done well as there was lots of compliments on the unique style of my advert and digipak and how because of this they deem it to be a successful product. Its given me a really in depth insight to what they thought of my products,it allowed me to go back and look at the issues they picked out and made me see if form a different point of view. Something i may not of done if i hadn't gathered this feedback.feedback. I've learnt how differently peoples ages and personal taste can effect their judgement. In my feedback i learnt that my products was much more popular with ages 15-35 rather than the older categories. This is probably based on the genre i chose(POP) as the current music is more targeted to that age of consumers.I noticed with those who weren't as interested in POP/were of an older age, had more criticism on my products. They gave me improvements on things, those who enjoy POP music complimented-which was very contrasting but interesting at the same time.I learnt that by conducting my audience feedback in different way for example online and in person,i felt enabled my feedback to be very honest.I feel interactively they don't have to physically tell you hat you could do better/change so are more inclined to there for direct you in the right way.Looking at the results once more,i felt overall i gained the most constructive criticism from those of the online survey on the SurveyMonkey site and also the online questionnaire forms i sent out. With these,i felt i got the most in depth responses that led me to make changes to my ancillary texts based on the collected results.

I learnt from my audience feedback mostly that, as i'm creating products to be bought by consumers they need to be appealing and fit for purpose in what they are.By conducting this feedback i learnt that to create a successful advert/music video and digipak its needs to be widely appreciated and liked by many.To do this it must follow conventions that are appealing to an audience and i feel my audience feedback showed me this.Following on from the results,i began to make changes to my products ever so slightly,i took on board the comments originally made by some and decided to act on it.Within my digpak i change some of the backgrounds and enhanced the size of the fonts within my music advert and changed some clips and shot lengths in the video. This made a big difference, and after changing i realized my self how much of a big difference it made, and i genuinely liked it a lot better than before-and i wasn't expecting to.This goes to show that what u learnt from mt audience feedback has really benefited and helped me improve my work, which i may not of done without it.I learnt difference in opinions with always occur depending on age, taste, style etc but its creating a product that is liked by the majority that is key.My audience feedback results taught me that little minor things can be changed to make the overall product a whole lot better. Its taught my outside insights and opinions are crucial to the process of making a successful product, and its also taught me audience feedback can have a really beneficial influence on how your products turns out just by a mixture of opinions coming together.

To conclude, carrying out my audience research proved extremely important to my work personally. It enabled me to change an improve elements i may have previously missed. Not only that, its taught me that others people opinions on your work are crucial. My results from the feedback were really positive and that made me very happy and confident within my work.Alongside this, the improvements stated was very fair and helpful and some were implemented into my final products. If i were do to my audience feedback process again,i would carry out more filmed focus groups on more people.Other than that i am very happy with what i've done.To finish,i  learnt that audience feedback can be very helpful despite whether you first deem it to be or not,its crucial in understanding other opinions can help your work improve in ways you may not of initially noticed.

Part 2

Audeince Theory and how it applied to my audience feedback

Focus Group:

When conducting my focus group i asked a varying range of ages in order to obtain a difference in opinions that would benefit me.From creating focus groups i learnt its really important to ask the right questions in order to get a beneficial answer from the person your asking. Before arranging to do the focus group i sat down and figured out what questions to ask in order for my focus group to be successful,i thought it depth my different ideas and even went back to my research in order to secure my questions in being right.I also looked back at existing blogs from other media students in order to see what they were asking and whether i could draw some ideas from them.By doing this i managed to get some inspiration but as my products are very different i had to tailor my own questions around what would generate me the best feedback.

While in the process of conducting my focus group i learnt the people i asked felt quite shy in font of the camera, there was a lot of nervous laughing which ment i had to re record my focus groups a few times because of this, which was something i didn't originally think about.I learnt that mostly the people feel slightly under pressure and sometimes they rushed my questions but i felt i did get quite a few in depth answer form the focus group,i believe this is because i created questions specifically that needed a lengthy response and dint require just a yes or no answer. From conducting audience feedback in the style of a focus group ive learnt that you can can a range of different opinions depending on the people asked.I also noticed  by giving the people i was asking my products physically, for example as you can see in my focus group i printed out my magazine and digipak so they could hold them whilst answering my questions.I learnt this was really helpful to the people i was asking, they seemed more engaged and could give me a definite answer as they were looking at my work consistently and then giving me an answer from them. They also had the opportunity to assess my work further when i asked the questions because it was right in front of them, and i feel this really allowed them to elaborate on their point because they could visually see what they were talking about at the same time.

I also learnt that focus groups arnt enough in terms of generating audience feedback.I feel because i personally videoing them and it was my work they were assessing i feel they may have felt obliged to giving me a nice and respectful answer and may not of given me as much criticism as they would've say if it was anonymously. This is why i also incorporated anonymous online feedback in order to balance my audience feedback out.Looking at the answers from my focus group they were generally very good,i've learnt from this specific piece of audience feedback that all opinions differ and i feel this is really captured within a focus group as their reactions to work were captured.Overall,i learnt focus groups are a really good form of collecting audience feedback,it gave me a chance to physically discuss my work with others and gather their thoughts on it.

Poll & Survey:

Looking back at my audience feedback were i created various polls and a survey I've learnt a lot form them.I created them initially as a way of mixing it up and generating online feedback also. From using these sites for audience feedback I've learnt they're really efficient, quick and a great way of collecting feedback. Here to the left is my results from one of the polls i created for my blog.As you can see in a short space of time i was generating lots of results for the poll,i posted this ion my blog open for anyone to answer themselves and it proved to work really well.Using the polls gave me quick answers as to whether people i thought i need to make improvements or not and gave me a general idea of what that majority of people were thinking. As you can see the results are generally very good and this was really reassuring.I've learnt from using polls that they are a helpful piece of technology in terms of gathering a majotive idea of what people think about your products, however the only down side is because you have to choose one answer they in some ways narrow the response the person may of wanted to make, and they hinder you from elaborating,so that's why i went on to create other forms of feedback to balance it out.out. I've learnt that i got feedback a lot quicker using polls during my project, they were really fast and entailed the least amount of hassle as its all done online. The feedback i got from there i was un sure as to who answered them,so i feel the feedback was very fair are truthful towards my products.

Looking at my survey,it used very similar principles just in a few different ways.Using a survey allowed me to send it out online as well as have it on my blog, people could access it form the Surveymonkey site or in any way they wanted to.Once again the feedback was online and anonymous and i collected even more results bu using this website. As you can see this website actually collated all my feedback results into a graph without me having to do anything,it was extremely efficient in doing so and made it so much easily to see a generally overview of what the outcome of the results were.By the amount of feedback results i got from using this surveymonkey website I've learnt that people are a lot more inclined to give feedback that's less hassle to do.from my project, that's what I've found out.I feel i gathered the most feedback online because of that reason, plus i feel people are more inclined to judge your work more harshly as your not there in front of them, which made it even nicer to see when the results were really good despite them being anonymous.

Looking back at my work as a whole I've feel I've learnt and developed a lot in terms of how to create things successfully in order for them to work-i feel my audience feedback is a great example of this.Using interactive platforms online was really helpful to me and re enforced the fact of how powerful the internet is nowadays and how many people would prefer to do things online because it reduces hassle and time.Because of this i felt my polls and survey were extremely successful and gave me some of the best results purely because they were interactively accessible online.

Questionnaires:

As a part of my audience feedback i also created questionnaires.I feel questionnaires are one of the most simple ways to collect feedback and have been around for a long time.As my aim was to include all different forms of feedback i decided to design personally and make my own questionnaires using Publisher.I drew them up fairly quickly as i had done some before in the past.I tailored the questions to be sepcidic but also included boxes where i ask them to 'Explain?' as a way to prompt them to elaborate on their points.I've learnt that by making questionnaires and handing them out to all different types of people takes a very long time.Once there handed out it can take weeks to get them back and sometimes the people i gave them to didn't bother bringing them back at all so this was a struggle i faced. Despite this i learnt questionnaire can be very helpful, the ones i did get back were full of writing and packed with really good advice and ways i could improve.Everyone i gave a questionnaire to answered all the questions on the sheet with all the Explain? boxes filled in also which was good.

Going back to my earlier point of how i didn't receive some back,i was a little disheartened as i really liked the questionnaires i made.So what i decided to do was actually send some of my questionnaires out online via email. This ment i could get my questionnaire to all type of different people quickly and i didn't have to wait to see them do it.It allowed me to keep my questionnaire the same, just hand them out in a different way.I quickly learnt this was successful as as you can see in my slide share of the answers, the ones i emailed out online came back the quickest.I was really surprised by this but because i conducted the audience feedback myself i learnt people found it most efficient to do it online, and this became a re occurring theme.

From the answers to my questionnaire they were all very positive,i learnt many people picked up on size of text in some places and others of image placement however on the whole there was a lot of compliments of my uniqe design and lots of appreciation for the elements i had included which was really refreshing to see.

Evaluation Question 2

Here below is a poll I've used within my evaluation question above in order to gather outside opinions as well as my own...

How effective would you say the combination of my main product and ancillary texts are?

Very Effective
They work ok
Could be better
I don't think they work together at all

Part 2
Looking at genre theory and how it helped influence me in the process of making my main product and ancillary texts.

When creating both my music video and ancillary texts i used a combination of effective technies in the design, planning an researching process in order for them to work together well as a whole. In doing this is what vital that before doing anything i looked into Genre theory and what makes the Pop genre what it is.I decided to conduct this research as i knew it would be benefitical in giving me new ideas and inspriation thats conventional/uncovnentional within the pop genre.Genres nowadays allow artist to be specifically placed and perivced by others. When  artists conform to a genre they place themsleevs in a catagory amongst other competetivers and allow themselves to be indientified along side them.Creating identites for my artists themselves i began looking at the importance of it.I noticed artists who blend between the boudnaries of genre are less identifiable and less easily to undersdtand, amny people who listen to music liek a certain type, hence having different genres.Because i identified that my music video and artist would fit within the pop genre i decided to base my theory around this.

David Duff suggest " Genre is a reoccuring type or catagory of text as deifned by structural and thematic criteria".When reading this it made sense, each genre is deifnd by what makes it the way it is.The themes of the genre for examples the style of music, the generic appearnce of the atrists,if its mainstream etc... are all what make up a genre.Once i identified this i found it alot more easier to understand what the pop genre consisted of and how my products would fit in with it.Once id narrowed down and understood what each genre is defined by it made it weasily within the desing and creantion p[rocess as i knew what to do in order to be identified within Pop and not edge into different genres, which wasnt my aim.Becaus eof this,i did exsisitng product research and found convnetional item from exisiting aristists such as Katy Perry and Rihanna and looked at how they displayed themseleves and their products therefore drawing imforation directly form people within my genre.Understanding the genre theory, helped influence me alot.It gave me a clear path of  where to go in terms of colour use, desing technique, and the other elements i was using within my music video. It influenced me in what to stay away from also, and how to make both my products identify with being POP whilst still having a fresh new look to them.

As i began looking further into genre theory i found that Steve Neal 1980 suggests "Genres are instances of repeption and difference...difference is absolutly essential to the economy of genre: mere repetion would not attarct a genre". Having read this it made me understand how all gewnres need to be different in order for them to be they way they are.If they all shared every exact concept there would eb no distiniction between them and it wouldnt work.As he states, difference is essential and i feel this to be true. When creating my media products with this is in mind reassured me about what i was doing. It helped me conform to the conventional aspects you see othe rpop artists do,espicall within my ancillary texts.

I feel one of the main reasons my main products and ancilalry texts worked effectively as a combination was because i emulated features from one to the other.I tired to keep continutity running throughout it order to show noticeable elemenets that draw all ym products together by.In doing so,i feel my products were really effective.Because i looked at genre theory from the outset i feel it gave me a starting point,it influence me in terms of sticking to my chosen genre in order for my artist/s to be indentifiyable.Throughout my research i conducted very sepcifc research on the pop genre and didnt want to vear away form this just because my design lacked conventions.I feel becaus eof the use of genre theory i was able to create effective products that stand together as one, which are exrtremnely covnentional and are very evidently Pop in genre.I wnated people to instantly know the genre of my products just on first glance, without lsitenign to ym video of reading my advert/digipak.And i feel because of the use og genre theory,i was able to do that.

Evaluation Question 1

Part 2

Narrative theory/Why i chose pop and my soundtrack
During the research an planning process I came across many artists within the Pop genre who created music with easily follow able narratives and performances. Artists such as Katy Perry, Justin Beiber,Taylor Swift all crated music videos that followed a continuous narrative telling a story throughout. As I really like the pop genre myself, I felt it appropriate to base my music video around this genre. Narrowing down my soundtrack options was pretty difficult, I knew I wanted to either to a narrative based video, a performance one a mixture of the two. With this being in mind, I wanted an  upbeat edgy song with a mixture of bodies in it, so my music video isn’t just featuring one person throughout. Having this is mind I looked at narrative theorists in order to can inspiration while in my creating process. According to Sven Carlson music videos fall into two categories conceptual and Performance.Performace videos based around heavily focus on the that of the people within it, and conceptual being made up of either an abstract music video featuring moods and abstract realties or a narrative that tells a story throughout. Looking at this theory helped me to break down the ideas I had and allowed me to think about more in depthly about whether to choose narrative, abstract of performance as my focus.
Looking at my music video product, it’s evident to see I chosen a performance based video with hints of narrative within it.Because my soundtrack was very upbeat and there was a lot of lyrics involoved,I felt performance would work the best in allowing my artists to stand out more and gel with the song as it progresses. As you can see in my product all 3 of my artists are miming and giving a performace, with many dancing along as well to the lyrics. As the song is quite edgy and sassy I felt it appropriate to use performance as the most part, because it will allow me to translate the lyrics across to the audience watching in a meaningful manner.Carlsons concepts of performance allowed me to understand the way in which performance can be a powerful technique in translating messaging across not only through miming but through performance to.As you cans see in my video, I used performance from my main characters part to convey emotions and feeling as well as singing the song at the same time. I used body language and subtle movements in  her performance to convey her state of feelings set for the video. I feel it worked really well and allowed my main artist to take on a role that fit well with my ideas.Looking at my 2nd female artist who plays Iggy. Her performance was crucial to the success of the middle part of the song, as in my soundtrack her lyrics are said with lots os sass and edginess and need a performace to match the style in which they are said.I think my artist captured this really well,I asked her to try and gian an alter ego within the video that will allow her to act like someone whos angry at the situation in hand.
As you can see in these two screen shots below, her performace is in character of the way I wanted it to be.Her actions, body language and facial expressions all match the lyrics being said.I feel she gives

a really believeable performace and fits the charcter well. The sceond screen is a snapshot of when she mimes  ‘LIKE WHAT’. The hand actions are really wide and facial expressions look quite cocky, giving off a really good performace that gits perfectly within the video.

For my male artist I kept his performance quite subtle,I didn’t want to over expose him as I wanted him to be seen as mysterious and desireable within the video.I created shots that sometimes only show him mouth miming like this on the right.Id seen shots like this being used in rela media products from artists such as Rihanna,Sia and John Legend.I found it effective in thei already exsisting media products and found it added a rela mysterious feeling as your watching it as you cant quite grasp there full appearance, leaving you wanting to know more. This feature appears a fair few times in my video, and I used it as a deliberate technique as a part of the performace by him.Hes also seen performace hands gestures and movements throughout again, subtle attempts to make him look desitrebael to the audience and tot hat of ym main artist.I felt it added a differenct feel to my video at the same time,as only featuring his hands again initiates the desired effect I wanted to create.

Continuing on with narartive theory I also looked at Todorovs theory. He suggests there are 5 stages the narative can progress through; 1. A state of equilibrium ; 2. A disruption of that order by an event. ; 3. A recognition that the disorder has occurred. ;4. An attempt to repair the damage of the disruption. ;5. A return or restoration of a NEW equilibrium.Looking at his theory and studying it in my research and planning process allowed me to gian an idea of structure and happenings that occur within conventional videos. His theory initiated my thought process on what I can feature within my video and how I can structure it.Whether I wanted my video to have a point at the end were the problem is solved,an ongoing problem,a distruption/fragmentation to the narrative etc.As you can see if my main product now ive encorperated a slight narrative around the performace. In the sense,my main chracter is lsuting voer the male and the 2nd felmale is getting in the way of it.Comparing this to Todorovs theory my female artist who plays Iggy distrupts and fragments the narrative between the main female and the male by interupting the songs flow with her rapping section. This provides a structure to my song and creates an obsticle in the way of the subtle narrative I created. Her disruption of the rapping leads to the mian character thinking the male has done something bad, leaving the ending of the song on bad terms between them, when initially it started off well.

Analysis of my music video

When creating my music video i already had in mind ideas from my research during the earlier stages.Gathering inspiration and looking at how exisiting videos used specific conventions i decided to include some in my own video.I firstly focused on cinematography,i opened and closed my music video in the same way.I had seen this been done by Lady GaGa and i really feel asif it works as a signifier allowing the video to have structure.I uses a zoom for a close up and zoomed out.I liked the effect this had and i felt it introduced my product rather than it just starting featuring my performers.Because the shot was a zoom of lights it also created a glared effect making it look almost distorted and again i really liked the feel it added to the video.Using this shot type to open and close my video, worked really effectiviely.Throughout the main part of my music video i used lots of medium close ups,i did this intentioanlly in order to capture the eprformers singing.I wanted there costumes to be visible but i wanted their face to be the focal point so choosing this shot type enabled me to do both.
In the first few opening shots on my video i used a pan of the River Humber.I did this intentioanlly as i felt it was the most approparite shot to do,to show the footage i wanted to.By using the pan is allowed me to reveal the scenery of the lcoation and also made it intriguing as it was gradually shwoing whats there, rather than it just been a long shot from far away.I feel this worked well in the opening stages as it itroduced my video in a really effective way.Another shot type i used was the extreme close up,i used this mainly when i was filming close ups of the lips miming.I chose this shot based on the fact i wanted to only see the lips.I felt it added quite a mysterious effect to mywork aswell as i used this shot for my male model quite alot in the beginning before revealing his full apperance.I like the way it allowed me to use the lips as the focus point of the clip, and by doing so allowed my performers to still be present while there full appearance isnt.
Alongside all these shot types i also used titls.I used them to reveal my main female models body from the bottom upwards.I felt it made the footage have a more sexual appeal in terms of The Male Gaze theory.Having looked at that theory and how women are often sexualised in videos,i felt this shot type allowed me to include this is a subtle way.Rather than starting with appearance the shot allowed me to feature her body making the way up,almost asif you was looking from someone up and down-and i really liked the effect it had.Long shots was alos apart of my shots that i used,i didnt use them that often as i felt they wasnt approparite much in my video, but for diversity i added a few in.for example,i used a long shot to picture my main feamle performer dancing as it allowed me to feature her whole body moving, allowing the audeince to grasp what was going on.
Analysing my use of mise en scene i tried to keep all the props and costumes relevant to my genre.I felt by usiong props within my video it helped me alot in re inforcing ym genre. For example i used a telephone within the mise en scene as i felt it highlighted the communication between the girl and boy.It alloweed th narrative to be carried through despite them not being on screen. Also as the phone is now a promident feature in my targets audiences life i felt it was relatable to them and they could almost connect with the idea i was portraying.I used a bedroom location for some parts of my main perfromers parts,i felt this reinforced how lusting over a boy is thing most girls can associate with, and by having this bedroom i felt it signified the girls own space to think about things away from everyone else.I also liked the way it looked real girly and gacve the footage that homely feel i was going for in that shot.I juxtaposed this location with the outside grassy area in which she is dressed in heels.I intended this to be a complete contrast to signify that shes had enough almsot asif it time for her to be 'free'.Using this outside location also allowed a change in my mise en scene rather than it all been in inside locations. As the video nears the ened i feature high heels and perfume in some of the footage this was a deliberate use of mise en scene to signify shes done.I was trying to imply she was getting ready for a night out with her friends to get away from the situation,in case this message wasnt understand i once again re inforced it by writing 'were done' as a text message to the boy in question.i felt it worked really nicely and rounded off the narrative in the way i wanted it to.

For  my male model i made his costume include a balck adidas jacket as i felt this was a general stereotypical peice of clothing for a boy.I inteneded to make his behaviour quite cheeky and irrestible as a part of the narraive of her wanting to be with him.I felt i displayed this with the actions i amde him do e.g smiling, rubbing face/hands,laughing etc.Working alongside the constume i felt this worked reaslly well in the way i wanted to portray him.For my 2nd performer who plays iggy i had her have 2 costumes changes.Because her rap is quite fast i felt stickign to one costume wouldnt look as good.I wanted the shots to be quick and snappy round this section and i feel the way i included two constumes allowed the footage to look asif she was at different places due to the mise en scene.I continued this idea with my mian perfromer also, having a causal top and jeans outfit juxtaposed white the heels and dress later on in the video.

Within my music video i focused on it been mainly performace,as i have 3 performers within it i wanted to focus of the acting/dancing and miming sides to the video. As i progressed further in i noticed whiledoing this i was also creating my own narrative around it.That been my main perfromer wants to be with the male performer however the 2nd performer who plays Iggy acts as sort of an antagonist in the narratyive and creates a distruption in the structure, evidently allowing a narrative to be created despite me orginally intending it.Once i ahd finished my music video i realised the video is mainly performance based however there is a clear narrative to be followed thats open for interprepation.

In conclusion,i am very happy with my overal music video.I feel i furfilled the majoirty of the aims i set out to at the beginning and included lots of ideas form thr research i did previously.I feel i displayed my models in the way i wnated to and captured footage i deem sucsessful. If i were to do it agin i'd mybe re take some of the fottage were its a little shaky as i was un aware of this while filming and possibly add some more colour filters within the video to show even more continuity to link with my digipak.Other than that i feel my product as a whole works really well and im happy with the outcome.

Inspiration for Design

This Prezi explains how and where i drew inspiration for my design for my ancillary texts from, looking at one main artist in particular i explain how i used ideas of her and was influenced by her style of appearance and explain how that led me to generate new and unique ideas, enabling me to create something fresh that had never been seen before.
